What is Rivkin Local?
The provision of advice on Australian equities is something Rivkin has been doing since the inception of its business in 1997. Rivkin Local formulates focused investment strategies and provides specific stock recommendations on shares listed on the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX). These recommendations are then presented to members in a simple and concise format, enabling them to easily follow and implement the advice.

Rivkin Local does not adhere to a simple ‘buy and hold indefinitely’ style of investment. On the contrary, its mandate is to actively seek out specific opportunities as they arise, in an effort to make significant returns for members in a relatively short period of time. And with Rivkin Local’s specific event-driven and income-based strategies, this can be achieved regardless of the prevailing market conditions.
We have always described ourselves primarily as event-driven investors; by this, we mean that we look for price action in the market that creates an opportunity to profit, because an event such as a takeover or a change in management, for example, has created an anomaly in the price of a stock. Often, when the market focuses on a single event, it can fail to focus on the bigger picture and, as a consequence, price a share incorrectly. Opportunities frequently arise that Rivkin Local takes advantage of in order to maximise returns and not simply attempt to outperform an index which might be ailing.
As an example, our event-driven investment advice includes recommendations on stocks subject to takeover, as well as stocks subject to a capital return or buyback, which is often beneficial for low tax paying vehicles (such as superannuation funds, particularly in pension phase) on account of the large fully franked dividend components.
Rivkin Local also focuses on identifying stocks with a strong income flow. Seeking out and recommending stocks that offer solid, reliable and fully franked dividends, ensures that members are paid an income while they hold a stock. Furthermore, share prices are often underpinned by the dividend income stream, which take an element of risk out of the investment. And risk minimisation is something we are always focused on.
Beyond individual recommendations, Rivkin Local’s investment advice also comprises a number of diversified, model portfolios. These enable members not only to monitor our overall performance, but also to see how we allocate capital to trades, which in turn facilitates the creation of their own portfolios. And importantly, a model portfolio system permits the holding of cash when investment opportunities are not available.
