Five long-term stocks to buy now

Five long-term stocks to buy now

Here are my five top long-term stocks one could consider buying now:

  1. AMP Ltd (ASX: AMP) - A company with great exposure to the superannuation industry which will continue to grow at above-GDP levels, and a CEO who is finally putting his mark on the company.
  2. Carsales (ASX: CRZ) and Seek (ASX: SEK) - I put both of these companies together as they are both the leaders in their respective areas on the internet in Australia. What I particularly like about these two is that the companies have been able to use their entrepreneurial cultures to expand outside of their core business and with great success, and I expect that they will continue to grow at impressive levels.
  3. Woolworths (ASX: WOW) - A long-term must in any portfolio, the stock has recently been sold off dramatically on concerns on the company's margins and competition. With some high profile errors like Dick Smith and Masters I think its likely management will stop taking its position for granted and return the company to growth over the long term.
  4. Arrium (ASX: ARI) - My final name is Arrium which is what I would call a high risk bet. The view is based on the expectation that the currency will remain low and that iron ore prices will return to higher levels in the future. ARI has high levels of debt so the downside is high if these expectations are not met but if they are then I think Arrium is very cheap and has the potential to be a fantastic investment.

Investing in and trading securities (such as shares listed on the ASX) and/or derivatives (such as Contracts for Difference or 'CFDs') carry financial risks. CFDs carry with them various additional risks that differ from more simple securities such as fully-paid company shares. Some of these risks include not owning the underlying instrument from which a price is being derived, settling trades 'over the counter' with a financial institution rather than on a stock exchange, and using leverage to gain access to trades that may have a higher face value than your initial deposit. This risk of leverage means that it is possible to lose more than your initial investment.
